Meet Alexandra Ivarsdottir: The Queen of Iceland’s Euro 2016 WAGs

As the Eurythmics once sang: “Behind every great man. There has to be a great woman.”

And that’s certainly the case when it comes to Iceland’s remarkable run to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

Along the way, Lars Lagerback’s side have dispatched Holland in qualifying before finishing ahead of Portugal in a tricky group and deservedly dispatching England along the way.

While plenty of Iceland’s lesser names have put in a series of impressive displays, much of the credit should also go to established stars like Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Premier League favourite has led by example at the European Championship with goals, attacking play and creativity in abundance.

But he wouldn’t have got anywhere without Alexandra Ivarsdottir.

A former Miss Iceland winner and 2008 Miss World contestant, Ivarsdottir is already a popular figure in her homeland.

With Sigurdsson arguably the country’s most famous footballer, his 27-year-old girlfriend currently enjoys a status akin to Victoria Beckham at the height of Goldenballs’ fame.

Dubbed The Ice Queen by the national press – in a name that is a riff on Sigurdsson’s nickname of The Ice Man at Swansea – Ivarsdottir is also rather partial to the occasional magazine shoot.

Regardless of this, the 27-year-old model was on hand to cheer Iceland on to an historic win over England that also sets up a quarter-final meeting with France.

Oh la la, this one is going to be tasty. The football could also prove to be quite entertaining too. Better than England, at any rate.
