Usually, those who are looking to slim down are encouraged to avoid alcohol at all costs; it’s full of empty calories expert warn. Tequila, however, can help you LOSE weight according to a new study. Hallelujah.
Tequila is derived from the agave plant, which contains agavins, a natural form of sugar that is non-digestible and can act as a dietary fibre, which means it won’t raise your blood glucose and could actually help stabilise the endocrine system, a huge component of weight loss.
These agavins also support the growth of healthy microbes in the mouth and intestines – which can also help you feel fuller and therefore help you eat less.

The study, initiated by Mexican researchers was presented during the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society.
“Agavins are not expensive, and they have no known side effects, except for those few people who cannot tolerate them,” said study co-author Dr. Mercedes G. López.
The future of this study could also produce a healthier sweetener which while not as sweet as say fructose or sucrose could instead aid in a fitter body in the long run.
So instead of reaching for the low-calorie vodka at the pub, try throwing back a shot of tequila or two.
