A Sanitation worker from Queens is in big trouble with the NYPD. Why? He impersonated his twin for almost 20 years.
So reports the New York Daily News, who say that 54-year-old Thomas Murphy of Rockaway, Queens started using the social security number of his twin Robert who, in a grim twist, died the day after they were born in 1962.
From 1994 – 2013, Murphy collected more than $580,000 in benefits. A sanitation worker’s salary in New York is usually between $50,000 – $80,000 per annum, so Murphy wasn’t doing terribly. Greed got the better of him and he decided to bring his brother back from the dead.
He created another address, driver’s license and bank account for his one-day-old twin.
“This public servant lived a life of lies to egregiously supplement his taxpayer-funded income with public funds to which he was not entitled,” said state Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott.
We’d say so. Murphy has pleaded guilty and will face the music on April 4th when he will be sentenced in the Queens County Supreme Court for committing grand larceny and falsifying business records. Jeeze.
We much prefer the twin story about Perrie Edwards and Katy Perry when everyone thought they were somehow long lost twins based on a random face-meld.
Yes, much better.
