Bad movie choices among Hollywood’s elite are a lot like assholes – no one is proud of them, but they have all got one just the same.
And whether you are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Pacino or Meryl Streep herself, even the very best actors in the world turn in a turkey now and then.
If you are lucky, these duds arrived before stardom takes hold. If you are unlucky, however, said duds then reappear once you’ve made it big. Here are eight examples of the latter:
Emma Stone – The Suit Life of Zach and Cody
A year before Emma Stone landed the part of Jules, in the crude comedy Superbad alongside Jonah Hill and Michael Cera she took on a minor role in Disney’s Suite Life of Zach and Cody. The Zombieland and Easy A actress did the voiceover for London’s dog, Ivana.
Jennifer Lawrence – Monk
The Oscar winning actress has taken on a variety of gritty and comedic roles over the last few years. Before she landing her break out lead in Winter’s Bone and earned an Oscar nod though, she was dolled up as as a fury mascot for an episode of Monk.
Ben Affleck – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Long before Ben Affleck was an award winning actor and director he was shooting hoops in Buffy. Basket ball player #10 on Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie from 1992 was his eight professional acting gig. Just five years later he took the role of Holden McNeil in Chasing Amy which catapulted him to fame.
Jennifer Aniston – Leprechaun
The golden girl of sitcoms and rom-coms has not always been so lucky. A year before she began her stint as Rachel Green on the hit sitcom, Friends she was starring in Leprechaun the story of an evil, sadistic Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) who goes on a killing rampage in search of his pot of gold.
Leonardo Di Caprio – Critters 3
While Leo earned his stripes with What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), Romeo + Juliette (1996), and Titanic (1997) many of his earlier roles don’t quite live up in comparison. It’s strange to think that his career began with Critters 3. An IMDB rating of 4.8/10 it certainly isn’t Leo’s proudest moment, either.
Scarlet Johansson – Home Alone 3
Before she became Black Widow, Johansson enjoyed a variety of roles during her stint as a child actor. She even joined the cast for this lamentable entry in the Home Alone series as the older sister Molly. Since then she has landed roles in Lost in Translation, Lucy and The Avengers.
Angelina Jolie – Cyborg 2: Glass Shadow
With an IMDb rating of 3.8/10, it’s safe to assume this is not a career highlight for the Maleficent actress. Despite landing a leading part in only her second professional acting role, the film flopped at the box office. It doesn’t seem to have stopped her going onto bigger and better things.
Jonah Hill – Click
Over the last few years, Jonah has featured in a variety of roles, both comedic and dramatic, earning himself an Oscar nod along the way.
With that in mind, it’s hard to believe this part is in his past. Coming just a few years before his lead role in Superbad, his performance as a future, fat version of Adam Sandler’s son is just about as low as it gets…
