Let’s be honest for a second: 2017 was not a great year.
The world is more divided than ever, we’re just a hair’s breadth from all-out nuclear war and the Justice League movie was a giant pile of garbage.
Things can’t get much worse though and there are plenty of fantastic things to look forward to for the year ahead. Here are just seven things to get you excited for 2018.
Trips To The Moon
Once the preserve of Neil Armstrong and his NASA buddies, the Moon could soon be open to public visitors. Silicon Valley start-up Moon Express is planning to land a craft on the rock’s surface this year. If successful, it could pave the way for us ordinary folk to make the trip – provided you can stump up the cash for it.
It’s been well over a year since we last laid eyes on Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s sci-fi cowboy-themed epic about a Wild West-themed amusement park populated by androids. Last time we left them, the robots were beginning to run amok but even bigger things could be on the horizon – samurai world, anyone?
The Winter Olympics
It may lack the prestige of the summer games but the Winter Olympics still serves up some pretty spectacular sporting fare, with events like ice hockey, ski jumping and bobsleigh all offering up countless hours of entertainment during a time when most folk want to stay in doors.
A Royal Wedding
Whether you’re a royalist or not, the upcoming nuptials of Prince Harry and Suits actress Meghan Markle is something to celebrates – and you can guarantee the British public will do just that. Get ready for street parties, extended pub opening hours and lots of boozing this May.
Another Game Of Thrones Book
Fans have been waiting on George R.R. Martin to deliver another Game of Thrones tome for some time now. Given that most fans expected the next instalment, Winds of Winter, to be released in 2017, it’s looking highly likely that the book will arrive at some point in 2018. We hope.
The World Cup
Okay, so having the tournament in Russia may not be the best of starts but it could be worse – it could be in Qatar! Oh wait… Anyway, after the rip-roaring success of the last World Cup in Brazil, hopes are high that this tournament can live up to the hype. England have been handed a pretty good draw too.
After the disappointment of Justice League and Henry Cavill’s stupid digitised face, superhero movies look set to get back on track in 2018 with two HUGE movies. First up is February’s Black Panther, which already boasts an eye-catching trailer and then, in May, fans will finally get the first part of Avengers: Infinity War.
A movie that’s been some 10 years in the making, it’s set to be a game-changer for superhero movies and blockbusters as we know them!
