Arsenal have completed their first major piece of summer transfer business with Granit Xhaka joining the club from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
A combative midfielder who is good in the air, known for breaking up opposition attacks and in possession of a fine passing range, Xhaka could be the man to finally fill Patrick Vieira’s sizeable boots at the club.
But the 23-year-old former Basel youth prospect is so much more than just the second coming of Vieira.
For example, he’s also more than capable of weighing in with a fine taken goal when the situation calls for it – as these five examples demonstrate.
Pure Unadulterated Power
A fine marksmen from distance, Xhaka is also in possession of one Thor’s hammer of a shot as this unstoppable hit in the Europa League demonstrates.
A Consummate Finisher
Humiliated by France at the World Cup in Brazil, the game still provided a personal highlight for Xhaka who took his one and only chance of the game in some style.
Like A Rocket
Another thunderbolt of a strike, this goal may have come against lowly Sarajevo but the power and swerve behind the shot means it would have most likely left even David De Gea looking a little silly.
Good In The Air
Remember when we mentioned Xhaka was good in the air? Well, that goes for goals as well as this fine last-gasp derby winner demonstrates. Can we have more of the same against Tottenham, please?
Dead Ball Specialist
Having another dead ball specialist at the Emirates is no bad thing and in Xhaka, Arsenal is recruiting one of the German top-flight’s finest free kick men.
A sublime goal from a man we are looking forward to seeing plenty more from in the months to come.
