5 Crazy Facts You Never Knew About Bruce Lee

How well do you know the Enter The Dragon legend?

Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee is remembered as the greatest martial arts star of all time, and with good reason.

The actor took the film world by storm after starring in some of the most influential martial movies of the 60s and 70s, and he’s still idolised by fans everywhere for his lightning-fast technique and scarily impressive stunts.

Lee passed away in 1973 at the untimely age of 33, and his legacy as the greatest ever martial arts star will never be forgotten.

How well do you know the martial arts legend? loaded present 5 crazy facts about Bruce Lee below:

He Had Absolutely Terrible Eye Sight

It’s hard to believe that the greatest martial arts star ever had bad eye sight, but Lee was so near-sighted that it stopped him signing up during the war. He failed a routine American military physical in 1963, which meant he wasn’t sent off to fight in Vietnam.

That’s by no means the not the most interesting thing about him physically though. Amazingly, Lee had his sweat glands surgically removed in 1972 after growing tired of sweating during routines. Weird.

He Was Unbelievably Quick

Anyone who’s ever seen Enter Dragon will know he was the quickest martial arts expert ever, but you may not know his awesome party trick. The actor was so fast he could snatch a coin out of a person’s palm and replace it with another before they could close their hand.

He also knocked someone out cold during a fight in 1962, managing to land 15 punches and a kick in the space of just 11 seconds. The man was seriously fast.

He Idolised Mohammed Ali

Lee was a huge fan of the iconic Mohammed Ali during the 60s and early 70s, and would watch videos of his fights on repeat. He even thought of him as a superior fighter, and even contemplated organising a fight against the great fighter. Sadly, the bout never materialised.

Lee Took Cannabis For Over A Decade

Believe it or not, Lee was a regular drug user. The fighter famously chewed Nepal Hashish – a very strong form of marijuana – for over ten years. His drug use was thought by some to be medical, but it caused some controversy immediately after his death…

No-one Really Knows How He Died

Lee’s tragic death is marred in controversy and uncertainly. There are many theories about what caused his untimely demise at the age of 33. Some – including several doctors – believe his Cannabis use was a deciding factor in his death, while others believe that he passed following a deadly allergic reaction to a pain killer. More outlandish theories also contest that he was murdered by the Chinese Triads, after a hit was ordered by film producer Raymond Chow.

His death caused shock waves amongst movie fans around the world, and as a testament to his influence in the film, Hollywood favourites Steve McQueen, James Coburn and Chuck Norris were amongst the pallbearers at his funeral.
