WE HEAD TO BRITISH SNOWBOARDING’S BIGGEST EVENT TO SEE THE BEST RIDERS AND GET PISSED
The Honey Monster is passed out in the corner, Wayne and Garth are schwinging around the club, and Buzz Lightyear and Woody are again, fighting over the same girl. It’s a 90s fancy dress party, and it’s kicking off! Loaded is back at The Brits festival for the second year running. This time in Tignes!
Going since 1989, The Brits crowns the UK’s best skiers and snowboarders with the highest honours in the British calendar – The British Championships. Combine that with awesome music, and crazy parties – this year’s pick of the bunch being The Nextmen playing in a mountain top club – and Tignes really is the place to be.
Day One, and most of Tignes were at the Bangers & Cash Rail Jam to watch to finest UK rail riders battle to win the top prize of £1000. For the lads, boarder Andy Nudds smashed it, flying in from Finland especially! So would we for a grand! For the ladies Becky Menday took the win, wall riding and all sorts.
Day Two was the biggie – the competition that everyone wanted to win. The comp that would turn a ski/snowboard British champion into an absolute legend and provide the best fancy dress at the 90s-themed party. We however, have no idea who won, due to one to many beers.
But before the evening’s antics, it was time for the skiers to show that they aren’t just funky salopettes and poles, in the slopestyle championships. Julian Ball nailed it for the men, with 12-year-old Madi Rowlands winning in the girls, pulling off 900s and all sorts.
Still to come from the Brits, the huge half pipe, and more importantly more beer. SCHWING.
